The SIM is an important element of a mobile phone, and is essential for using its functions such as making calls, sending SMS or surfing the internet. You may find that your mobile phone does not recognise the inserted SIM card and reports that an error has occurred. It doesn't have to be a SIM card fault right away, there are several solutions you can try for this problem.

Restart your mobile phone

First, try turning your mobile phone off and on. This simple method will often help solve the problem.

Insert the SIM card into another device

If restarting your phone didn't help, try inserting the SIM card into another mobile device. This will help you see if your phone is at fault.

Clean the SIM card or slot

If the SIM card doesn't work in another device, check if the SIM card or the slot you're inserting it into is dirty.

Contact your operator

If none of the above options have helped, contact your operator. They will check your SIM card and replace it if necessary.

Contact your mobile phone dealer

If none of these solutions have helped you, the problem may be with your mobile phone. In this case, contact your mobile phone dealer or the relevant authorised service centre.

This advice applies to the SIM cards you insert into your mobile device. You may have already encountered an eSIM, which is an alternative to a SIM card. eSIM profiles are only uploaded to the phone via a QR code, you do not insert anything into the mobile device. But more about that next time.
